INDIA: UP COURT AWARDS DEATH SENTENCE TO ACCUSED IN RAPE AND MURDER CASE OF MINOR GIRL
February 24, 2021: The Additional District Judge (ADJ) of Hardoi, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on 22 February 2021 awarded death sentence to an accused for rape and murder of a one-and-half year old minor girl. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the accused. The District Government Counsel Ramchandra Rajout said that the ADJ Vijay Srinet put the crime of the accused in the rarest of rare crime category to award the capital punishment to the accused. An FIR was lodged on 17 March 2014 by the father of the deceased minor girl that his one and half year old daughter, who was playing outside their house in Kanthathok village in Hardoi district, was missing. Later, her body was found outside the village. It was confirmed in the post mortem that the minor girl was first raped and then killed. After investigation in the case, the police arrested one Guddu who admitted his crime. The police produced forensic/ medical reports and evidences during the trial which was accepted by the court in holding Guddu guilty of rape and murder. The trial lasted for six years. The family of the deceased minor girl said that they finally got justice for their daughter. The accused, who appeared shocked after the verdict, was taken into police custody and sent to jail.
