BANGLADESH: 2 GET DEATH PENALTY FOR KILLING CHILD IN CHAPAINAWABGANJ
March 20, 2021: Two people on 18 March 2021 were sentenced to death for killing a seven-year-old child, Baitul, in Chapainawabganj. The court also fined the convicts Tk50,000 each, in default of which they would have to spend six more months in jail. Additional District and Sessions Judge Rabiul Islam gave the verdict in the absence of the accused. The convicts are Rahim, 46, and Faruk Hossain, 38, sons of Manjur Hossain from Chakpara village under Charbagdanga union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. Additional Public Prosecutor Anjuman Ara said: “According to the case statement, on the night 19 January 2010, following a dispute over land and money, the convicts Rahim and Faruq attacked their cousin Nazrul Islam’s family with crude bombs, leaving many of them injured. “Nazrul’s nephew Baitul was severely injured in the attack and was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.” On 20 January 2010, Nazrul Islam then filed a case accusing Rahim and Faruq. Later, the investigating officer of the case SI Ataur Rahman filed a charge sheet against the accused on 8 June of the same year. Following the evidence, the court convicted the duo and sentenced them. However, the accused in the case are absconding.
