IRAN - Yousef and Shamsi Pirostovan (Pir-Ostovan) executed in Qazvin Prison on May 30
May 30, 2021: Yousef and Shamsi Pirostovan (Pir-Ostovan) executed in Qazvin Central Prison on May 30. According to Iran Human Rights, a couple who had been married at the time of their arrest and also cousins, were executed on drug-related charges in Qazvin Central Prison on May 30. His identity has been established as Yousef Pirostovan (Pir-Ostovan) and his ex-wife Shamsi Pirostovan (Pir-Ostovan). An informed source told IHR: “The couple were arrested around eight years ago and sentenced to death for possession of 380 kilograms of drugs (unknown type).” In 2018, Ms Pirostovan had divorced Yousef. She is the sixth woman to be executed this year and the 158th woman to be executed since 2010. This is the 118th woman executed during Hassan Rouhani’s tenure as the mullahs’ president. At least 15 women have been executed every year in Iran over the past 8 years. Mrs. Pir-Ostovan is the 1st woman executed after the amendment of the law on punishment of drug-related crimes in 2017. The amendment banned executions on drug-related charges.
