INDIA: MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR RAPING, KILLING MINOR IN UP
November 8, 2021: A district court in Bahraich, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced 20-year-old Phoolchand Kanaujia to death after seven months of raping and killing a 12-year-old girl, News Track reported on 7 November 2021. Additional Sessions Judge (POSCO) Nitin Pandey has also ordered a sentence along with a debt of 40,000 rupees to Phoolchand. The court has sentenced the co-accused, Roshan Lal, to 20 years imprisonment. The state government has also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to Bahraich police for the action. It is learnt that Superintendent of Police Sujata Singh said that the body of a 12-year-old girl was found near the pond in Raja Rehua village of Bondy police station area on 10 April. We immediately formed teams on the basis of informer surveillance, Phoolchand's colleague Roshan Lal has been taken into custody. Meanwhile, the forensic team was asked to ensure that all the important evidence was preserved and then the result has been proved by the laboratory within a stipulated time frame. Autopsy Forensic Lab has confirmed that she was first raped and then murdered. A chargesheet was filed against Phoolchand and Roshan Lal in the court under the Protection of Children from Kidnapping, Rape, Murder Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
