BANGLADESH: TWO SIBLINGS SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING MAN IN CUMILLA
April 3, 2024: A court in Cumilla on April 1, 2024 sentenced two brothers to death in a case filed over the murder of a man in Titas upazila of the district in 2020. The convicted were identified as Shamim Mia, 24 and his brother Md. Dulal, 26, residents of Rajnagar village of Homna upazila of the district. The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each. Judge of Cumilla Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-4 Md. Jahangir Hossain pronounced the verdict in the afternoon. According to prosecution, Md Faisal had a love affair with a college student of the same area. Due to the affair, Shamin and Dulal, cousins of the college girl, killed Faisal on June 5, 2020. Salma Akhtar, elder sister of the victim, filed a general diary in Homna police station. Police investigated the matter and arrested the accused and the accused gave confessional statements to the court. After 12 days, the police recovered Faisal's body from the place shown by the accused. The investigating officer of the case submitted charge-sheet against them in the court on March 16, 2021. After examining the record and witnesses, the court found them guilty. Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Nurul Islam confirmed the matter. (Source: BSS, 01/04/2024)
