IRAN - Nasrin Shakarami, mother of Nika Shakarami, sentenced to one year of imprisonment
November 30, 2024: November 30, 2024 - IRAN. Nasrin Shakarami, mother of Nika Shakarami, has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment and additional punitive measures. She was released after 46 days of detention on a hefty bail. According to a report received by Hengaw, on November 30, 2024, Nasrin Shakarami, the mother of Nika Shakarami, a victim of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, has been released on bail set at 5 billion tomans. Simultaneously, she has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment accompanied by additional punitive measures. Sources revealed that, in addition to the prison sentence, Nasrin Shakarami has been sentenced to a two-year ban on leaving the country, a two-year prohibition on residing in Lorestan Province, and a two-year ban on social media activity. Previously, Nasrin Shakarami’s lawyer, Ali Omidi, had stated that the charges against his client included “insulting religious sanctities and disseminating falsehoods to disturb public opinion,” “engaging in propaganda against the state,” “inciting people to war and violence,” and “insulting Ali Khamenei and Ruhollah Khomeini.” Nasrin Shakarami was arrested by security forces on October 16, 2024, in Khorramabad. Her daughter, Nika Shakarami, a 16-year-old from Lorestan residing in Tehran, was killed under torture after being detained by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s security forces during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement. Nine days after her arrest, Nika’s body was returned to her family, following a period of silence and lack of information.
