SAUDI ARABIA. WOMAN TO BE EXECUTED FOR STOPPING RAPE
September 13, 2005: a young woman was waiting execution in Saudi Arabia for killing a man who was trying to rape her, the Saudi newspaper Arab News reported.
The woman was convicted of murdering a man while trying to stop him from raping her. Repeated efforts to sway the family of the murder victim to grant her pardon had failed. Arab News did not give the name, age or nationality of the woman.
Abha prison director Major Saud Al-Otaibi told the paper that the woman had spent six years wondering whether her fate would be pardon or death.
Lately she had become isolated, extremely depressed and her physical condition was deteriorating, Al-Otaibi said. (Sources: AP, 13/09/2005)
