IRAN. TEN 'CONVICTED MURDERERS' HANGED
April 19, 2006: ten men convicted of murder were hanged in a prison in the Iranian capital.
"All 10 men were convicted of murder, and after our pleas with the victims' families did not prevail, they were hanged according to the law," Tehran's deputy prosecutor Mahmoud Salarkia was quoted as saying.
"In some nations there are gas chambers and the electric chair, but here we have hanging," he told the Etemad newspaper. Press reports identified the 10 men -- who were hanged in Evin prison at dawn -- as "Saeed P., Mehdi C., Ali Kh., Reza T., Davar K., Vahid S., Shahram B., Saeed H., Ali Asghar N., and Mehdi S."
