KENYA. MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER OF GIRLFRIEND
March 8, 2007: after more than two years of trial, a Nairobi court found James Love Mwangongo guilty of murdering his girlfriend Stella Njeri, President Kibakiās relative. Mwangongo was awarded the death penalty by hanging. The court dismissed the defenceās argument that it could have been suicide, saying the deceased, an airhostess with Kenya Airways, had no reason to end her life. "The accused had the time, opportunity and motive to kill the deceased. Medical evidence shows that the attack was brutal," Justice Apondi said. (Sources: The Standard, 09/03/2007)
