TUNISIA. JOURNALISTS PLEA FOR ABOLITION OF THE DEATH PENALTY
March 8, 2007: Tunisian journalists published their plea for the abolition of the death penalty from the country's statute books. A press release by the League of Tunisia Journalists reminds how, on several occasions, the civilian society, and more generally, the citizens of Tunisia have shown their rejection of this practice, considering it an inhuman form of vendetta which denies the right to life. The League express their appreciation for the work of President Zeyn al-Abidin Ben Ali, who has imposed a de-facto moratorium on capital executions. (Sources: Aki, 08/03/2007)
