GAY IRANIAN. RADICALS ASK DUTCH EU REPRESENTATIVE TO INTERVENE
March 3, 2008: Radical European Parliamentarians Marco Cappato and Marco Pannella asked the Dutch Permanent Representative at the European Union in Brussels to intervene so that the Dutch Government grants Seyed Mehdi Kazemi political refugee status.
Kazemi, a 19 year old gay Iranian, risks extradition to England and then deportation to Iran, where he would be sentenced to death.
The Radicals sent a letter to the Dutch Ambassador, Tom de Bruijn, asking him to intervene.
They urge the Dutch authorities to apply the many provisions of international treaties and European directives regarding the granting of refugee status, due to his situation meeting the conditions, as well as the risk of death which he could face. The decision is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5. (Sources: radicali.it, 03/03/2008)
