LEBANON: HIZBULLAH EXECUTED SENIOR ORGANIZATION OFFICIAL ACCUSED OF ESPIONAGE
September 8, 2008: the Kuwaiti daily Al-Siyassa reported that Hizbullah executed one of its senior military officers, Jamal Salah, on charges of maintaining contacts with "hostile elements" in Lebanon and of spying for Walid Jumblatt's Socialist Progressive Party. According to the report, Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah insisted on executing Salah, and so did the Iranian representative in the organization's Shura Council, Muhammad Radha Zahadi. The sources said that the execution was carried out in secret at a Hizbullah facility in the Beq'a valley and that Salah's body was handed over to his family. (Sources: Memri Blog, 08/09/2008)
