May 19, 2009: Iranian authorities hanged two men convicted of drug trafficking and murder.
The first man, identified as Ahmad A., smuggled 23 kilograms of heroin, the Kayhan newspaper said. He was sent to the gallows in Iran's southwestern city of Dezful.
Iranian authorities hanged a man convicted of murder. Mahmoud, 25, was hanged in the central city of Isfahan, the Fars news agency reported. The report did not say when he was hanged. In March 2008, Mahmoud, jilted by a woman who married another man, stabbed, cut the throat and burned the body of the husband's brother to take revenge on the family, Fars said.
