MALAYSIA: TWO NEPALESE SENTENCED TO DEATH
November 26, 2009: two Nepalese found guilty of drug trafficking were sentenced to death by Judicial Commissioner Azman Abdullah of the Malaysian High Court. In a sting operation in 2003, Hari Bahadur Ghale, 29, and Sajan Gurung, 30, were arrested trafficking 875.2gms of high-grade heroin.
Under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, Hari and Sajan face the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. After judgement was delivered and an interpreter explained the court's decision and that they could file an appeal, Hari and Sajan merely nodded. (Sources: Bernama.com, 26/11/2009)
