MALAYSIA: DEATH FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING
June 1, 2010: shop assistant Ahmad Saad Hazmin, 25, from Pasir Mas, was sentenced to death by judge Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim in Malaysia for trafficking 979 methamphetamine pills weighing 13.94g in Pasir Mas in 2008.
Ahmad Saad Hazmin from Pasir Mas stood calm in the dock when judge Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim read the sentence but broke down when relatives met him after the proceeding.
Zaidi said the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt and under the act, he had to sentence the accused to death by hanging.
He added that the defence was merely based on a denial but the accused, who had given evidence in court, could not deny that he was present at the scene. (Sources: New Straits Times, 01/06/2010)
