KENYA: MAN TO HANG FOR VIOLENT ROBBERY
March 2, 2011: A man was sentenced to death in Kenya by a Gucha court for robbery with violence. Simon Mochobo was convicted for robbing Consolata Ntenga of goods and cash valued at Sh80,000 in 2000 in Kenyenya district. He was with Peter Oywonga and Majuma Gekwabe.
Oywonga and Gekwabe were acquitted because they were not identified.
Ogembo Principal Magistrate Lily Nafula found Mochobo guilty of robbing Ntenga as her evidence was overwhelmingly incriminates the first accused and it had been corroborated. "I have no doubt in my mind that the first accused has been placed in the first complainant's compound on the night of the robbery and convict him accordingly," ruled Nafula. "I proceed to sentence the accused to serve the mandatory sentence of death for the first count," she further ruled. (Sources: allafrica.com, 02/03/2011)
