IRAN: 11 HANGINGS FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING, RAPE

May 16, 2011: 11 people have been hanged recently in Iran.
On May 14, one man found guilty of drug smuggling was hanged in a prison in the northern town of Tonekabon, the Kayhan newspaper reported.
Two people were hanged on May 14 in the city of Ghazvin, west for Tehran.
According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA two people identified as "H.M." (40) and "R.H." (38), were convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to death by the revolutionary court in Ghazvin. The executions took place in the central prison of Ghazvin in the morning, according to the report.
On the same day four men were hanged in the central city of Yazd early in the morning, reported the state run Iranian news agency Fars.
According to the report three of the men were hanged in public and the fourth person was hanged inside the prison.
None of the men were identified by name, but according to the report they were all convicted of rape.
On May 12, four people were hanged in the prison of Kerman, in south-east of Iran.
According to the official site of the Judiciary in Kerman the four persons executed were: "A. A." convicted of carrying 8500 grams of heroin, "N. B." for carrying 5800 grams of crack, "N.D." for carrying 4870 grams of heroin and "A.B." for carrying 20000 vials of Norgesic.
