TAIWAN: MILITARY OFFERS MILLIONS IN COMPENSATION FOR AIRMAN WRONGLY EXECUTED
October 27, 2011: Taiwanâs defense ministry says it will pay $4.4 million to relatives of airman Chiang Kuo-ching, 21, who was wrongly executed in 1997 after a court martial convicted him of murdering a 5-year-old girl. Following relativesâ numerous appeals, a military court acquitted him posthumously, saying his confession was the result of torture and coercion. (Sources: Washington Post, 27/10/2011)
