CHINA: 3 TAIWANESE EXECUTED IN XIAMEN FOR TRAFFICKING 357KG DRUGS

March 7, 2012: Three Taiwanese drug traffickers who were given the death penalty by the Xiamen Intermediate People's Court for trafficking 357kg ice were executed, reported Xiamen Economic Daily.
The other 2 Taiwanese drug traffickers involved in this case were given death with a two -year reprieve.
The court ruled that Lin Wenbin, Qiu Siqing, Chen Yongfa, Jiang Shiqian and Chen Songhui were guilty for committing a series of drug trafficking crimes from October to November in 2002. They were found using long-distance buses to smuggle a total of 357kg ice from nearby Guangdong Province to the city of Shishi in Fujian.
The police intercepted a coach from Dongguan in Guangdong Province at the Dongfu section of the Zhangzhou-Xiamen Express on 25th November, 2002. 101kg of ice were found on the bus and Jiang Shiqian was arrested at the scene. This is their 8th drug smuggling when they were seized by the police.
Qiu Siqing, Chen Yongfa and Jiang Shiqian were given the death penalty by the court, and Lin Wenbin, Chen Songhui were sentenced to death with a two -year reprieve.
China prescribes tough punishments for drug smuggling. According to relevant laws in China, people convicted of smuggling, selling, transporting or producing more than 50g of methamphetamine (ice) or heroine can be sentenced to death. (Sources: whatsonxiamen.com, 09/03/2012)
