TEXAS (USA): JESSE JOE HERNANDEZ EXECUTED
March 28, 2012: Jesse Joe Hernandez, 47, Hispanic, was executed in Texas.
He was sentenced to death on July 21, 2002 in Dallas County for the April 11, 2001 slaying of a 10-month-old boy, Karlos Borja, while baby-sitting him.
Karlos was taken to a Dallas hospital with a skull fracture and bruises to his head, thigh and abdomen. His 4-year-old sister had similar beating injuries to her head, ears and eyes but survived. Hernandez denied beating the children but later told a detective he may have hit the boy with a flashlight because "They were being very bad by crying a lot for nothing."
Hernandez becomes the 4th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Texas, the 481st overall since the state resumed capital punishment on Dec. 7, 1982, the 12th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1289th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
