SOMALIA: MILITARY COURT EXECUTES 2 SOLDIERS CONVICTED OF MURDER AND RAPE
January 16, 2013: the Somali military court executed two government soldiers convicted of murder and rape, Somalia's Hiiraan Online reported.
Jamal Ahmed Abdikadir, 23, who was a member of the police force, murdered a man in 2010, and Abdi Osman Magan, 32, a military officer, raped a woman in October 2011, according to the court.
"The decision to carry out the executions was issued by the military court by using sharia and the country's laws," said Liban Abdi Yarow, chairman of Somali military court. "These two soldiers pleaded guilty in front of the court."
Special forces carried out the executions, with senior military officials and the head of Somali police force as witnesses.
