INDIA: DEATH SENTENCE FOR 32-YR-OLD FOR RAPING, KILLING MINOR
February 5, 2013: A lower court in Mandla, India, awarded death sentence to a 32-year-old man for raping and strangulating a minor girl, in just a month after the incident.
The incident occurred on December 26, 2012 at Payali Narayanpur village. The witness of a minor boy played a pivotal role in establishing the crime.
Public prosecutor B L Bargaiyan said, "The DNA matching of the vaginal swab of the victim and the semen of the accused was done in this short period." Rape was established with the matching of DNA and strangulation was seen by the victim's minor brother, who is just 10 years old, he added.
"The decision was given by court in just seven sittings," Bargaiyan told TOI.
Sources said that the victim, a 14 year old girl, was at her house with her minor siblings, as both her parents were at a farm. The accused, known to the family, came and slept at their house and when all the other children felt asleep, raped the girl and strangulated her, added sources.
The next morning when the victim didn't get up despite repeated attempts of the mother, the 10-year-old sibling informed the mother about what transpired in the night, said sources. (Sources: timesofindia.indiatimes.com, 06/02/2013)
