MALAYSIA: JOBLESS MAN TO HANG FOR MURDER ONFIVE-FOOT WAY
February 16, 2013: An unemployed man has been sentenced to death by a High Court in Malaysia which found him guilty of murdering a 23-year-old man on a five-foot way two years ago during a brawl.
Justice Zamani Abdul Rahim said the defence had failed to raise any doubt to the prosecutionâs case against S. Arumugam, 29.
Arumugam was charged with four others still at large with the murder of S. Vijaindran at the pavement in front of a shop in Jalan Tasek, Bandar Tasek Mutiara in Simpang Ampat, south Seberang Prai, at around 11.30pm on June 4, 2011.
The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
âAlthough the defence pointed out that there was no scientific or forensic evidence of the accused at the crime scene, there are statements from witnesses which implicated the accused with the act of murder,â Justice Zamani said in his judgment.
Arumugam was represented by counsel R.S.N. Rayer while DPP Emma Syafawati Abdul Wahab prosecuted. (Sources: thestar.com.my, 16/02/2013)
