CHINA: 64 CRIMINAL GANG MEMBERS SENTENCED BY CHINESE COURT
January 11, 2014: A court in south China has handed down a suspended death sentence and prison terms to 64 members of a large crime ring.
The head of the gang Cen Ruiyi was sentenced to death with two years' reprieve for the crimes of organising and leading a criminal gang, intentional homicide and injury, said a statement issued today by the Intermediate People's Court in Wuzhou City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The other 63 members received jail terms ranging from a year and a half to life, the statement said.
The gang engaged in usury and gambling house operation, illegal on the Chinese mainland, from 2006 to 2012.
One person was killed and eight others injured in cases connected to the gang that included extortion, robbery, illegal detention and intentional homicide, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. (Sources: Press Trust of India, 11/01/2014)
