UAE: NEPALI YOUTH GETS DEATH PENALTY
January 16, 2014: A UAE court has awarded death penalty to Anish Khaling Rai, 23, of Matsyapokhari, Sankhuwasabha, Nepal, for his involvement in the murder of Pakistani national Bangal Khan, over a year ago.
Khan had died while undergoing treatment after an assault in a restaurant in the gulf country on October 25, 2012.
Anish, who was working as a domestic help in Abu Dhabi of UAE for the last one-and-half year, had been in police custody since the incident.
Anish’s family has urged the government to do the needful to save his life. His father Bhim Prasad, 75, mother Dik Maya, 57, wife Rabita and daughter have arrived in Kathmandu, seeking help from the concerned authorities to save Anish.
They have appealed to media activists, the government, rights activists, and others for support and cooperation for the protection of his life.
“We have requested the president to appeal to the UAE court for Anish’s amnesty,†said the Save Anish Campaign Committee. (Sources: thehimalayantimes.com, 16/01/2014)
