UAE: MURDERERS ESCAPE DEATH PENALTY
January 15, 2014: Two murderers have escaped the death penalty in the UAE after their victimâs parents accepted Dh200,000 in blood money.
The two Bangladeshi men, identified as S.M.,31, and M.H.,29, were sentenced to death in 2012 for beating a man to death after robbing him in the industrial area.
They will now serve six years in jail in addition to paying the blood money following the pardon from the victimâs parents, according to a ruling announced by presiding Judge Hussain Al Assufi in Sharjah Sharia Court.
The men have already spent more than two years in jail so are set to serve another four.
The family of the 28-year-old Bangladeshi victim, identified as S.B., 28, accepted the blood money after a series of negotiations.
The verdict is expected to be final as the victimâs parents signed a paper pardoning the suspects, a prosecutor told Gulf News. (Sources: gulfnews.com, 15/01/2014)
