SAUDI ARABIA: KENYAN GIRL SENTENCED TO HANG
September 10, 2015: A group of over 80 girls who were being detained at a deportation center in Saudi Arabia have arrived back in Kenya.
The ladies who arrived on September 5 and 6 came back with a call to save the other women in Tarhil among them a Kenyan girl who has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia after she was raped by her employer.
The girl only known as Violet was allegedly raped by her employer who later on accused her of seducing him and raping him after he discovered that she was pregnant.
âIn Saudi Arabia, if you sleep with a man who is not your husband, the penalty is death,â said one of the returnees.
âAfter she gave birth, her child was taken away from her, her employer took her to court and claimed that she had raped him while the truth is he is the one who raped her,â she continued.
The girls are now appealing to the Kenyan authorities to save Violet from death in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Ghetto Radio has launched the hashtag #SaveVioletFromDeath to try pressurize the government into saving Violet.
The 87 girls were saved after Ghetto Radio exclusively revealed a video of their distress call which prompted Kenyans to start a hashtag that pressed the government into saving them. (Sources: ghettoradio.co.ke, 10/09/2015)
