IRAN: TWO AFGHANS HANGED - LAWYER CONDUCTED THE EXECUTIONS
June 5, 2016: According to the state run Iranian news agency Fars, two Afghan prisoners were hanged in a prison in Tehran. The prisoners were convicted of several cases of rape and robbery. Neither the prisoners nor the exact place of the executions was revealed in the report, which was published on June 5.
A lawyer of one of the offenders conducted the executions. The lawyer, who wasn't identified by name, told the Fars news agency: "On the request of one of the offenders I personally conducted the punishments". This is despite the fact that the prisoners were charged with rape and not murder.
According to the Iranian laws, families of the murder victims can conduct the execution of the murderer. But Iran is probably the only country where execution of rape offenders is carried out by the hands of a lawyer. (Sources: Iran Human Rights, 06/06/2016)
