BANGLADESH: ONE SENTENCED TO DEATH, THREE TO LIFE TERM FOR MURDER
June 29, 2016: A man was sentenced to death and three others were handed life term imprisonment for killing a woman in Bogra.
The convicts are Sohel Ibne Karim, 30, Sakil Sarkar, 20, Sengupta Ghosh, 30, and Ahad Ali, 40, Sohel Ibne Karim and Ahad Ali were tried in absentia.
Sohel was sentenced to death and all of the convicts were fined Tk 50,000, in default to suffer one more year.
According to the prosecution, Sohel along with three associates killed Shirin Akhter, 23, daughter of Azizur Rahman of Adamdighi upazila following an altercation over dowry on 13 December 2012.
A case was filed with the Adamdighi police.
After examining records and witnesses, Judge of the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman handed down the verdict. (Sources: en.jagonews24.com, 29/06/2016)
