TUNISIA HAS 1,500 DETAINEES TRIED FOR TERRORISM
May 10, 2018: The number of people tried for terrorism in Tunisia has reached 1,500 detainees, spokesperson for the judicial counter-terrorism division Sofien Sliti said. "The number of Tunisian terrorists currently in war zones stands at 2,929 while the number of those who have returned from these conflict zones is close to 160," he added at an international conference on Youth and Terrorism held in Tunis. He also said that 90% of terrorists who returned from conflict zones are in prison. Sliti pointed out that the age range of these terrorists is between 25 and 29 years, noting that 70% of them are not married. According to data provided by Sliti, 43% of terrorist elements have a secondary education level, 47% have a primary education level and 4% have reached higher education. Terrorists who joined the conflict zones came from Greater Tunis (32%), coastal regions (28%), the south (23%), the centre (9%) and the north (8%). The governorate of Medenine is the largest exporter of terrorists (395 people), followed by Ariana (295 people), Monastir (205 people), Tunis (201 people) and Tozeur (11 people).
