TEXAS (USA): JUAN CASTILLO EXECUTED
May 16, 2018: Juan Castillo, 37, Hispanic, was executed. Castillo had been sentenced to death in Bexar County on Sept. 1, 2005 for the Dec. 3, 2003 robbery and shooting of Tommy Garcia Jr., 19. Castillo was taken into the death chamber in Huntsville, and at 6:21 p.m., injected with a lethal dose of pentobarbital, according to the Texas Department of Justice. Twenty-three minutes later, he was pronounced dead. Castillo 's execution marks the 6th execution in Texas this year, the 551st since the state resumed executions in 1982, the 11th in the United States, and the n° 1476 since USA resumed executions in 1977. With six more executions scheduled in Texas before the end of September, it seems Texas is poised to regress toward its historical execution mean in 2018. (Source: sentencing.typepad.com, 16/05/2018)
