NIGERIA: 7 ARMED ROBBERS SENTENCED TO DEATH BY HANGING IN KWARA STATE
February 18, 2020: Seven armed robbers have been sentenced to death by hanging by a Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin, Lawyard reported on 14 February 2020. The convicts, Muritala Rahaman, Emeka Eyinmma, Christian Emeka Obasi, Uche Sunday, Rafiu Abdullahi Togo, Damilare Oyeladun, Simeon Ogundeji, were sentenced to death, while another, Oladimeji Sanusi was given life imprisonment. The convicts were tried by the trial Judge, Justice H.O Alayi on the basis that they robbed one Mr Adeoye Olawale who lives at Gaa Akanbi area of Ilorin in 2015. The convicts stole Mr. Olawale’s car and Samsung Galaxy 2014 series, which was later used to track them by the police. Barrister Toyin Onanolapo, who represented one of the convicts Oladimeji Sanusi, who was given life imprisonment, said the judgement passed on his client would be challenged at the appeal court. He said his client did not participate in the robbery attack but only bought the Samsung phone, which was stolen by the robbers saying he was not supposed to bag life imprisonment.
