March 14, 2021: Nafiseh Pakmehr, a woman, executed in the Prison of Taybad on March 14. The news was published on March 19 by women.ncr. Taybad is located in Razavi Khorasan Province in eastern Iran. Nafiseh Pakmehr had been imprisoned for 8 years on death row before being hanged. This execution has not been announced by official authorities or the state media in Iran as this news is being published. This is the 116th woman hanged in Iran since Hassan Rouhani became the mullahs’ president in summer 2013. The clerical regime in Iran has recently stepped up execution of women. Most convicted women are victims of domestic violence and committed murder in self-defense. The Iranian Judiciary, however, does not categorize deliberate murders, and punishes them with the death penalty regardless of the motivation and reason. Iran holds the record of the world’s top executioner with the highest number of citizens executed per capita. It is also the world’s top executioner of women.
