IRAN - Sonia Sharifi released on bail
December 16, 2022: Iran releases on bail young girl accused of ‘enmity against God’ Yesterday, Iran temporarily released a 17-year-old girl named Sonia Sharifi, who was arrested by the security forces during the public protests in Abdanan, Ilam province, and accused of “enmity against God” (moharebeh). The teenager, who was held in the Juvenile Detention Centre of Ilam, was released on a bail of 400 million Iranian Tomans – nearly 10,500 USD. Many civilians from Abdanan welcomed Sharifi by dancing and stomping at the city’s entrance. Security forces arrested the young girl at her grandmother’s house in Abdanan, Ilam province, on 19 November. Reportedly, the security forces severely beat Sharifi while arresting her. Security interrogators forced her to “confess” about making Molotov cocktails and writing slogans. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Abdanan and Ilam did not provide the family with a detailed answer regarding the status of Sharifi’s case. In the past few days, the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Offices in Abdanan and Ilam refused to provide the young girl with legal counsel. They said she was accused of “enmity against God” (moharebeh).
