February 13, 2026: February 13, 2026 - IRAN. Victim accounts: the killing of Jahanbakhsh Hesar Firouzeh, 70
Jahanbakhsh Hesar Firouzeh, a 70-year-old protester, was shot with a pellet gun by state forces during the January 2026 protests in Shiraz and died a day later. In an interview with a person close to his family, IHRNGO has obtained details indicating that his family has since been subjected to security pressure.
According to the informed source, Jahanbakhsh Hesar Firouzeh, who was married and owned a home appliance store, was shot at around 9 pm on 9 January 2026 in the city of Shiraz. He was struck in the kidney by pellet gun fire from security forces and died the following day.
The source told IHRNGO: “During the widespread protests in Shiraz, Jahanbakhsh saw two security forces firing at unarmed people. He tried to take the weapon from one of them, but another one approached him from behind, placed a pellet gun against his side and fired.”
According to the source, bystanders attempted to stop the bleeding by tying a scarf tightly around his waist. Jahanbakhsh tried to walk home but collapsed due to severe blood loss. “People urged him to go to hospital, but he refused. Eventually, a motorcyclist helped him and took him home.”
After arriving home, Mr Hesar Firouzeh recounted the events to his family. A dentist known to the family examined him and stressed that his condition was serious and that he needed to be transferred to hospital. He continued to refuse until a relative persuaded him at around 1 am to be admitted.
The source said: “Mr Hesar Firouzeh had around 80 pellets lodged in his kidney and other parts of his body. He underwent surgery in hospital, during which his right kidney and part of his damaged intestine were removed. However, he died the following day after his remaining kidney failed.”
He added: “Security forces pressured the Hesar Firouzeh family to bury him in a location designated by them, but the family refused. He was buried in the family grave with four security agents present. During the burial, security forces only allowed six family members to attend, while other relatives were forced to watch from a distance.”
The source close to the family told IHRNGO that Jahanbakhsh Hesar Firouzeh had several children and grandchildren and was known among relatives for his kindness. “Unarmed, he tried to stop the shooting of protesters and lost his life in the process.”
