DEATH PENALTY. SUPPORT FROM LATIN AMERICA FOR UN MORATORIUM
October 16, 2007: Chile, Ecuador and Mexico have confirmed their support for the UN initiative for a moratorium on capital punishment, in view of its abolition. Chilean President Michelle Bachelet confirmed that he will co-sponsor the pro-Moratorium resolution during a press conference with Premier Romano Prodi, at the end of a meeting between the two at Villa Pamphili in Rome.
At a meeting after the third Italian-Latin American and Caribbean National Conference, Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Massimo DâAlema thanked his counterparts from Ecuador and Mexico, Maria Fernanda Espinosa and Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, for their support.
