BOTSWANA. MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER
October 22, 2007: Justice Thomas Masuku sentenced 31 year old Shakuhungira Loeto Baitsholedi to death for a 2004 murder at Samatsina village in the North West District, Botswana. The convict was charged with the murder of Keamogetse Thapiso, his co-accused Gaolelekwe Kawire was discharged before the trial concluded. Thapiso was found dead by his live-in lover Meleko Chapi on April 24, 2004 in the compound of his employer Josephine Burns. It is strongly believed that he died from shock and haemorrhage after he was shot with a gun. The bullet fired was from a gun owned by a prosecution witness Botsholelwang Sarega. Baitsholedi had borrowed the gun, which was later found by Serega's wife with two bullets missing. Justice Masuku said that not being able to account for the bullets suggested Baitsholedi had committed the murder, although there was no motive suggested. (Sources: AllAfrica.com, 22/10/2007)
