IRAN: D’ELIA (RADICALS)- DEATH PENALTY ALSO RESULT OF POLITICS OF APPEASEMENT
October 10, 2009: "As usual, the Mullah’s regime celebrated the world day against the death penalty in a deadly manner," according to Sergio D`Elia, Secretary of the Radical organisation Hands Off Cain. He was speaking in response to the death sentences of three opposition politicians that were announced today.
"The Iranian case isn’t only emblematic of the danger that undemocratic regimes represent to the world and its citizens. It is also a litmus test of the coherence and intention of democracies to confront such a danger."
"Instead of combating the Mullah’s regime, Europe discusses human rights. Now America also seems to see this as part of the solution to the problems in the Middle East, instead of seeing it as part of the problem. The success of such “politics of appeasement” against the Iranian regime can be seen in the number of executions that are increasing year after year" D`Elia said.
D’Elia reminded that "in 2008 there were at least 346 executions in Iran, and the situation is not showing signs of improvement. In the first nine months of this year, Hands Off Cain has already registered at least 324 hangings, 4 of which were of minors." (Sources: Apcom, 10/10/2009)
