DEATH PENALTY: D'ELIA (HANDS OFF CAIN)- EXECUTION IN EGYPT IS A TERRIBLE SIGN
October 10, 2011: regarding the execution today in Egypt of Hamam El-Kamouny, Hands Off Cain Secretary Sergio DâElia said:
âThis execution is not a good sign for the new Egypt. On the contrary, it shows a total continuation of the systems and practices of the past.
We can only speak of a democratic Egypt when the country completely affirms human rights and ends the practice of the death penalty that was in vogue under the Mubarak regime.
The decisive test for a true change of regime is the trial of Mubarak. If the trial excludes the death penalty, it will be the most obvious solution to the issue of continuing past practices.â (Sources: HOC, 10/10/2011)
