MALAYSIA: FORMER POSTMAN GETS DEATH SENTENCE FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING
March 22, 2012: A former postman was sentenced to death by hanging by the High Court in Malaysia after being found guilty of trafficking 500 grams of ganja three years ago.
Judicial Commissioner M.Gunalan imposed the sentence on Abd Rahim M. Ali, 39, after finding that the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt on the charge.
"The defence put up by the accused was a mere denial and the explanation given by the accused when he was arrested was also illogical," said M. Gunalan.
As soon as the sentence was read, the wife of the accused fainted while Abd Rahim hugged and kissed his children who were crying.
Abd Rahim was charged with trafficking 500 grams of ganja at a house at Jalan Impian 2/18, Taman Impian Jaya, Seelong, Kulaijaya at 8pm on Jan 10, 2009. (Sources: BERNAMA, 22/03/2012)
