BANGLADESH: SAGAR TO HANG FOR KILLING SHUBHO
March 24, 2012: In Bangladesh, a speedy trial tribunal sentenced to death Tajul Islam Sagar for murdering Gandaria schoolboy Dipto Das Shubho.
Dhaka's Fourth Speedy Trial Tribunal judge Motahar Hossain ordered execution of the death sentence by hanging.
The judge also sentenced him to 10 years in prison and fined Tk 20,000 for his attempt to kill Shubho's father Bibhuti Ranjan Das, 40.
It was proved in the court that the accused killed 10-year-old Shuvo and tried to slaughter his father for extortion.
Back in Jan 8 last year, Shubho's body had been found in a barrel full of water at their K B Road house at Gandaria in old Dhaka. The murderer tied his hands, legs and mouth before drowning him.
Sagar admitted to the court that he had stabbed Bibhuti in the throat, too, and took away Tk 35,000 from the house.
Police had arrested Sagar on the day after the brutal murder.
His father Siraj Hossain, who resides in the same building as Shuvo's, is a grocer.
Witnesses told the court that Sagar was a drug addict.
Shubho's mother school teacher Sheuly Rani Das told bdnews24.com that she wants quick execution of the verdict. (Sources: bdnews24.com, 25/03/2012)
