MALAYSIA: DUO'S DEATH SENTENCE FOR MURDER OF COLLEGE STUDENT UPHELD
April 30, 2012: In Malaysia, the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya upheld the conviction and death sentence of a woman and her boyfriend for the murder of International Islamic College student Juliana Md Fuzi, five years ago.
A three-man bench led by Justice Datuk Syed Ahmad Helmy Syed Ahmad said the Kuala Lumpur High Court did not make any error in its finding of facts when convicting them.
He said the Appeals Court did not have the advantage of assessing the demeanour of witnesses that High Court judge Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah had.
"We have no grounds to say conviction is unsafe," said Syed Ahmad Helmy when dismissing the appeals by Noralina Ahmad Dasuki and Muhammad Khairul Anuar Abdullah.
Justices Datuk Abdul Wahab Patail and Datuk Mohtaruddin Baki were the other two judges. (Sources: Bernama, 30/04/2012)
