GAZA: HAMAS EXECUTES MAN BY HANGING FOR MURDERING TWO
October 2, 2013: Hamas executed by hanging a man who was convicted of murdering two people in the Gaza Strip.
The Interior Ministry said Hani Abu Aliyan, 28, was executed in a security compound in the presence of relatives of the victim and representatives of various Palestinian factions and religious leaders. A witness says Abu Aliyan wore a hood and uttered a Muslim prayer before being killed by four masked executioners.
Hani Alayan, a resident of Khan Yunis, had been convicted of murdering Mu'men Abu Alayan in 2000 and Hazem Barham in 2007.
Alayan was a minor when he committed the first murder. He was then sentenced to life in prison. But he was later found guilty of murdering another person - a crime for which he was sentenced to death by hanging.
According to an Associated Press count, it was the 30th death sentence carried out by Palestinian authorities. Of those, 28 took place in the Gaza Strip, overrun by the Islamic militant Hamas in 2007. (Sources: www.post.com and AP, 02/10/2013)
