EGYPT: 2 ROBBERS SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR 2013 KILLING OF OFFICER
October 12, 2015: Banha Criminal Court motioned a death sentence for two men for killing First Lieutenant Mohamed Yasser in Shubra al-Kheima north of Cairo, Youm7 reported.
In June 2013, Yasser headed to Qattawi district in Shubra after reports that a gang was stealing peopleâs cars at gunpoint in the area. As the officer drove close to the convicts, who already had several criminal records, they shot him dead, according to Youm7.
The case includes four defendants in their early twenties, but two of them were killed in an exchange in a police raid after Yasserâs shooting.
The death sentence was referred to the Grand Mufti for an unbinding religious opinion; the sentence will be upheld or commuted Dec. 4. (Sources: thecairopost.com, 12/10/2015)
