CHINA: HK MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH IN BEIJING
October 17, 2015: A Hong Kong businessman who was caught with 24 kg of cocaine in his suitcases at Beijing Capital International Airport received the death sentence in a Beijing court.
According to mainland-based Legal Daily, the businessman, identified as Wong, told police a friend asked him to take two suitcases containing crystal rocks from Brazil to Hong Kong in August 2013. Wong said he would be given HK$30,000 for doing this.
Wong said he agreed as he wanted to go to Brazil to purchase jade. The friend said he would pay for the air tickets. He claimed he never realized the rocks were actually drugs. (Sources: China Daily, 17/10/2015)
