INDONESIA: 3 TAIWANESE SENTENCED TO DEATH ON DRUGS CHARGES
December 9, 2016: A high court in Indonesia sentenced three Taiwanese citizens to death on drugs charges, reports said.
Appeals were still possible with the countryâs Supreme Court, but the body rarely overturned lower-court decisions in drugs cases, reports said.
The three suspects, named as Wu, aged 21, Hung, 25, and Shih, 35, had been found guilty of involvement in a transaction of 26 kilos of methamphetamines.
They were arrested in November last year with two other suspects, including one other Taiwanese citizen, and sentenced to death by the Jakarta District Court on August 24.
Last January, Indonesiaâs Supreme Court for the first time sentenced Taiwanese nationals to death, three men named Lo, Chen and Wang respectively, in an unrelated drugs case.
More than 30 Taiwanese drugs offenders were still awaiting trial in prisons in Jakarta and Central Java, reports said. (Sources: taiwannews.com.tw, 09/12/2016)
