INDIA: TRIO GETS DEATH FOR 2012 TRIPLE MURDER
December 12, 2016: Three persons including a most-wanted accused in at least 24 cases - including 16 murders - were sentenced to death by a Barasat court for murdering three members of family four years ago.
Binay Biswas, a 42-year-old smalltime trader and his parents Amrito (72) and Tapasi (64) were shot and hacked to death at their residence at Kemia-Khamarpara near Madhyamgram by a gang of five on April 10, 2012. Binay had tipped off the police about the whereabouts of then "absconding criminal" Prabhas Dhali.
Binay's wife Shiuli, who was also attacked, survived and their two teenage sons Biswajit and Abhijit managed to flee from the spot.
Four accused including Goutam Dhali, Sujit Dhali, Samir Mondal and Manindra Adhikary were arrested from hideouts at Gaighata, Thakurnagar and Bagdah in North 24-Parganas while Prabhas was nabbed from Jalpaiguri's Falakata in November, 2012. Goutam had got bail from Calcutta HC but he went missing during the trial. Police, however, said he is still at large. Manindra committed suicide in Dum Dum central correctional home.
Observing it was a "rarest of rare" crime, seventh additional district judge (Barasat) Daman Prasad Biswas on December 12 pronounced capital punishment for Prabhas, Sujit and Samir.
Binay, who was earlier a part-time land broker, had got into a bitter battle with Prabhas, who ran a syndicates in Gaighata-Thakurnagar and KemiaKhamarpara areas. (Sources: TNN, 13/12/2016)
