BANGLADESH: WOMAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING 2 GIRLS
August 5, 2018: A court sentenced a woman to death for killing two girls in 2017 in Chapainawabganj. Judge of Additional District and Session Judge’s court Shawkat Ali handed down the punishment to Lucky Khatun, 22, wife of Ibrahim Ali of village Namo Shankarbati of Chapainawabganj municipality. The court also fined her Tk 2 lakh. The court also sentenced Mizanur Rahman Palash, 30, son of Rafiqul Islam of Angariapara of the area to three years rigorous imprisonment in this case. The court fined him Tk 10 thousand, in default, to suffer six months more. According to the prosecution, Lucky Khatun called her neighbour Maliha, 6, daughter of Abdul Malek and Sumaiya, 7, daughter of Milon Rana to her house on February 12, 2017. She strangled them and hid their bodies under her bed until February 14, 2017 to steal their gold-made chains and two pairs of earrings. Later, she sold the jewellery to Mizanur Rahman.
