IRAQ: 3 DAESH TERRORISTS SENTENCED TO DEATH
August 29, 2018: An Iraqi court sentenced three members of the Daesh terrorist group to death after convicting them of carrying out attacks in the western Anbar province, according to a judicial source. “The Anbar criminal court has obtained confessions from three terrorists linked to Daesh who took part in a string of operations targeting civilians and security personnel,” Abdul-Sattar Bayrakdar, a spokesman for Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, said in a statement. According to Bayrakdar, one of the three convicted individuals had taken part in an attack on an army headquarters near Ramadi; another was involved in “several terrorist operations” targeting civilians; while the third had participated in attacks on an army checkpoint and a local police station. Despite the convictions, however, the death sentences remain subject to appeal. (Sources: aa.com.tr, 29/08/2018)
