BANGLADESH: HC UPHOLDS DEATH SENTENCE OF 3 IN SAMI MURDER CASE
August 7, 2018: The High Court upheld the death sentence of three convicts over the killing of minor boy Salman Sami in Dhaka in 2011. A bench of Justice Krishna Debnath and Justice Shahidul Karim delivered the order after hearing the death reference and petitions filed against the death sentence. Earlier, the convicts filed review appeal with the High Court after Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal -4 awarded them death penalty on January 7, 2013 over the murder. The convicts – Md Rakib, 20, Md Saikat Khan, 20 and Md Jane Alam, 20 --strangulated Salman Sami, 8, on May 27, 2011 over a trivial matter and dumped the body into the Kaundia canal in the city.
